The crown on top of the fruit. This is the offset used to propagate pineapples in commercial farms |
Ananas comosus variegatus variegated pineapple plant A member of the bromeliad family the pineapple is a major agricultural crop in tropical climates the world over. This variegated pineapple plant grows just like the commercial pineapples and likes a warm climate. The fruit is coloured red and the crown leaves are also brilliantly coloured. In Kalimpong where the climate is on the coolish side the fruit does not ripen so we have not tasted it but we are sure it would ripen to sweetness in warmer climates.
