Hippeastrellia Durga Pradhan

Many years ago,  Udai C. Pradhan, a young schoolboy from a family that operated a nursery in Kalimpong,  crossed Sprekelia formosissma with a hybrid  Amayillis. The cross produced some fertile seeds and the result was Hippestrellia Durga Pradhan, named after the founder of M/s. Chandra Nursery of Rhenok in Sikkim.

This is a hardy plant with compact bulbs and leaves. Flowers in spring/early summer with brilliant red flowers carrying over the characteristic shape of the Sprekelia parent.
