Haemanthus multiflorus(current
nomenclature = Scadoxus multiflorus)
This
species originates in South Africa. The fleshy bulbs and rather thick
leaves probably helps it tide over arid conditions in its homeland. In
cultivation it does well in humus based soil provided there is good
drainage. Flowers in spring on a short scape with
many small flowers arranged in an almost spherical head. Very
colourful and showy. Winter dormant this plant looses its leaves in late
autumn. Flowers in spring and new leaves are produced after flowering.
