Achimines Popularly known as STAR OF INDIA Achimines belong to the Gesneriaceae family of plants ( related to Gloxonia) and originate from Tropical central and southern America. They have small tubers covered with scales. Winter dormant. flowering from early summer till early autumn. Plant grow vigorously in a rich compost. Excellent for pot culture where 6 to 10 tubers can be planted in a 6 inch pot. Best planted out in February/March. The leaves and stems die down in autumn and the tuber remains dormant through winter. Over the years many hybrids in a range of colours have been made. Our Achimines are available in listed species and as a general MIXED offering in many colours.
