Colocasia affinis jenningsii Spring and summer brings about a change in the flora of Kalimpong when many dormant plants start their cycle of life after a winter rest period. This Aroid inhabits steep mud ledges, cracks on large boulders and tree forks covered with humus. The type species Colocasia affinis has plain green leaves while the variety jenningsii has these beautifully marked leaves. The tubers are small. After the leaf has grown it produces an inflorescence on a short peduncle during mid summer. The spathe is light yellow-green in color. In late summer and early autumn the leaves wither away and the tubers retreat into dormancy to live through the winter. Habitat: Eastern Himalayas Ethnobotany: Not known |
